Robert Schinkel is a tea sommelier and cocktail bartender from The Netherlands. He started out his career during his study political sciences at the University of Amsterdam working in various bars and restaurants. It was there where he discovered his talent for hospitality and mixing drinks.

 

In 2006, while he was working in the famous restaurant, club and cocktailbar “The Mansion” in Amsterdam, he won one of the most prestigious international cocktail competitions claiming the title “Remy Martin Bartender Style Master”. This title was soon followed  by national titles  “Southern Comfort Bartender of the Year 2007”,  SCAE champion ”Coffee in Good Spirits 2008” and “Dilmah Tea Sommelier Champion 2009” showing his broad knowledge about all kinds of different spirits and beverages.

 

In 2007 he started an agency focussing in hospitality and cocktail training. For the last nine years he’s has been a speaker, motivator and consultant in the world of cocktails and F&B. Training staff at 5 star properties worldwide and teaching many professional bartenders, tea afionados and foodies about tea and cocktails.

Pekoe was awarded the Horecava Innovation Award in the category Food & Beverage: Pekoe tea liqueur. Tea Sommelier Robert Schinkel: "The development of Pekoe has lasted two and a half years and finally it's avialable for everyone. Winning this award gives an enormous boost! Pekoe consists of several liqueurs based on Dilmah tea. "There are a lot of liqueurs in many different flavors, but a real tea liqueur did not exist. It's an honor to announce that as from today I'll be making a monthly contribution on tea to a true icon in the world of bartending, Difford's Guide. I've been running into Simon Difford at many bars and barshow over the past years, and as a bartender I have several of his books and guides on my shelf. ROBERT SCHINKEL SHATTERED THE COMPETION IN THE GLASSOLOGY BY LIBBEY FINALS

 

During Lisbon Bar Show 2016, Robert Schinkel from The Netherlands has been named the winner of the first Glassology by Libbey design contest. The competition that promised to not only separate the great bartenders from the true drinks professional, but the drinks professionals from the real masters, came to an end with thrilling finals. 357 international bar professionals from all over Europe signed up for the competition; six finalists competed with Schinkel raising his glass as the winner. The jury praised his design for being trendy and iconic and praises Schinkel for raising a new standard for the future. Watch the result here.
